Wendell C. Breakiron 88, of Hopwood
“Every farmer puts his land to rest for the winter. On springs horizon it is brought back to life. God has put this farmer to rest, and with a spring in his step, smiling back at his loved ones, he walks the horizon to his Heavenly home.”
passed away on Sunday October 1, 2023 at his home.
He was born June 4, 1935 in Hopwood where he resided his entire life. He is the son of the late Clark and Bertha (Crago) Breakiron.
He married Garnet Rosner February 26, 1955.
Wendell was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Garnet M. Breakiron; and siblings George, Llyod, William, Elmer, and Jane.
He is survived by his children Cindy (Don) Geller, Randy Breakiron, Charlotte (Tony) DeCarlo, Laura (Randy) Rockwell; grandchildren Donnie, Chris, and Greg Geller, Randi, Heath, and Kelsey Breakiron, Toni Marie DeCarlo, and Jenna and William Schnatterly; 6 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Wendell owned Farmers Feed and Supply for 26 years, He was a member of the Hopwood VFD for 15 years, involved with the National Pike Festival. Fayette County 4H and Fayette County Fair for over 50 years. He served as president of the 4H Extension Board and the 4H Development Board. He also served on the Fayette County Fair Board.
Wendell was a farmer all his life.
He was a member of the Cherry Tree Alliance Church and a past member of Grace Brethren Church and Calvary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME (HOPWOOD) on Friday October 6 from 6-8, Saturday October 7 from 2-4 and 6-8, and Sunday morning from 11:30am until the hour of the funeral service at 12:30pm with Steve Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Hopwood Cemetery.
