Theodore Durany Obituary

Theodore (Ted) Durany of Upper Middletown was called home to heaven on Monday, December 15, 2025.  He was surrounded by his caregiver daughter Karen and his son, Ronnie.

Born on November 21, 1930, in Brownfield, PA, Ted was the son of the late John and Mary Benko Durany.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Lois Doyle Durany.  His brother John A. Durany, sister Vera Sirianni, and son-in-law Jack Steele also predeceased him.  He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

Ted was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Uniontown, where he served on church council and was an usher for many years. He was baptized there on December 25, 1930, and confirmed into the church in 1943.

He was a 1948 graduate of South Union High School.  Ted proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his children, Vera Louise Steele of Chalk Hill, Stan Durany and wife Patty of Lemont Furnace, Bob Durany and wife Vicki of Hopwood, Ronnie Durany at home, and Karen Gould and husband Rick, of Presque Isle, MI, and Upper Middletown, PA.  He is also survived by grandchildren Bobby Caldwell, Rian Caldwell and wife Sheena, Janelle Presley and husband Alex, and Bobby Durany; and great grandchildren Logan, Ben, and Finn Caldwell, and Mika Presley; brothers-in-law Jerry Doyle and Jim Kephart, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Ted shared his love of trains with Ronnie, and they especially enjoyed their visits to Louisiana and other destinations. Prior to her death, Lois enjoyed the train trips to Louisiana with them.

Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD on Friday, December 19, from 2–4 and 6–8 pm and Saturday, December 20, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, from 12 noon to 1 pm, followed by his funeral service at 1 pm, officiated by Rev. Kevin Anderson.  A graveside service will follow at Christ Chapel Cemetery, Chalk Hill, PA, where military honors will be accorded by the AMVETS.

The Durany family would like to offer thanks to all the staff at Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice.  Also, special thanks to his caregivers Jen, Darlene, Tammi, and Thelma.  The family appreciates the support of the Veterans Administration during Ted’s final years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ted's honor (71 N Gallatin Ave, Uniontown, PA 15401).
