Shirley Irene (Broadwater) Hughes

Shirley Irene (Broadwater) Hughes, 89 of Farmington, PA, passed away peacefully in Uniontown Hospital on September 26, 2023.

She was born on November 20, 1933, in Grindstone, PA, to the late Rollie Broadwater and the late Irene Broadwater.

Shirley was a graduate of Redstone High School.

She was a member of the Wharton Furnace Union Chapel in Farmington.

She was the former Wharton Township Tax Collector. During that time, she met so many people that she came to treat them like family. She loved to cook and have her family around her for dinners. She loved to get out and go to the casino and play her favorite keno game.

Shirley is survived by her son Paul (Pam) Hughes, Grandchildren, Greg R. (Mindi) Hughes, Joshua (Kaley) Hughes, Eric (Rebecca) Hughes, and Sean Hughes, Great-grandchildren, Madelynn Hughes, Taylor Hughes, Cameron Hughes, Marshall Hughes, Jaxsen Hughes, and Maverick Hughes. Her best friend and sister-in-law Martha (Eileen) Hixon, brother-in-law Steven Leachman, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Hughes, son Greg Robert Hughes, Sr., sisters Jackie (Joe) Girolami, Myrna (Bob) Hebner, Jane Leachman, Lynda Van Randin, and brother Rollie Broadwater. Mother-in-law Martha Hughes, Father-in-law Daniel Hughes, Sister-in-law Eleanor Hixon, nephew Danny Hixon, and niece Sharon Spiker.

Friends will be received at DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, 4222 National Pike, FARMINGTON, PA on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the hour of service with Pastor Steve Davis officiating.

Interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery Farmington, PA .
