Shelia Hartman Obituary

Shelia R. Hartman, 77, of Markleysburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025 at home. She was born on May 20, 1948, in Ohio, to the late Betty Legrand and Louis Farkas. She was also preceded in death by her brother Robert “Bobby” Farkas and her dear friend Toni Keller.

Shelia was an entrepreneur and homemaker, proudly owning and operating Hartman’s Variety Corner, a business she started with her husband, Lawrence Hartman Sr., whom she worked alongside for many years. Through their hard work, she met countless people, created many lasting friendships, and made positive impacts on all who knew her.

The heart of her home and family, Shelia embodied the very definition of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always made sure her family was well fed, well cared for, and surrounded by her warmth. To know Shelia was to know love—selfless, kind, caring, and compassionate. She gave freely of herself to anyone in need and opened her heart just as readily to animals as she did to people. To her, there was never a stranger, nor a stray left behind.

Shelia’s joys in life reflected her generous spirit and gentle soul. She had a special love for the beach, gardening, shopping, baking, and roses. She found delight in the beauty of wildlife, especially her beloved “Steelers Bird,” and cherished the companionship of her faithful dog, Molly, and cat, Kitty. Most of all, her greatest joy was her family, who will forever carry her love in their hearts.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Hartman Sr. of Markleysburg; her sister, Tamara Nata, and husband Michael of Kenner, Louisiana; her sons, Lawrence Hartman Jr. and wife Carol, and Mitchell Hartman and wife Brenda, all of Markleysburg; her granddaughter, Geanna Hartman (Chad); and her great-granddaughters, Delana and Máireád of Farmington. She also leaves behind her treasured animals and the wildlife she so lovingly cared for.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 5:00–7:30 p.m. at Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home, 4222 National Pike, Farmington, PA 15437, with a brief service to follow. A private funeral will be held at a later date with immediate family.

Shelia will be remembered for her boundless kindness, her devotion to family, and the love she spread so effortlessly. Her final resting place will forever be in the hearts of those blessed to have known her.
