Shawn D. Walker, 59, joyfully met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 15, 2023 after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer. Shawn left us peacefully with his loving family by his side.
Shawn was a selfless, good, and kind man. He loved using his skills as a carpenter for over 30 years, it was his passion and he wasn’t happy unless he had a tool in his hand! According to Shawn, his greatest achievement was having the honor to remodel his new church along side his wife. He would say daily “I can’t believe I get to make God’s house beautiful.” The church was his favorite job and he was very humbled by it.
Shawn was a simple man who enjoyed watching the Steelers and hanging out with his grandkids and watching them play sports. He loved the outdoors, animals, sitting on his porch drinking coffee or iced tea, listening to country music, and watching Fox News.
In 2020, Shawn married his soulmate “Roo” (who he loved calling “Rooster” at work) who also had the privilege of guiding him to Jesus for him to be saved, and he fell into his fun-loving extended family.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife and best friend Mary Ruth “Roo” Walker, his son whom he greatly loved Steven Walker; his precious mother Patricia Kelvington. His beautiful sisters Erin Waker, Nicole Grimes, Stephanie Hilling, and Angie Kelvington; nieces and nephews; and his special aunt Donna; His loving extended family who he loved Joey and Misty Rechichar, Matt and Krista Rechichar, Sarah and Bobby Patterson; grandkids whom he adored, Gavin, Dean, Maverick, Finn, Declan, River Rose (the apple of his eye), and baby Solomon. His dear friends Darin Agostini, Doug Booker, Mike Wilson, and his whole shop-and-save family, Mark Byers, Rev and his Genesis House Family and brothers; his whole church family whom he loved dearly at New Hope Free Methodist Church; Special thanks to Brad Rechichar and Jeff Opall for all your help with work; and many other friends who helped him along the way.
Shawn was predeceased by his father and mentor whom he greatly admired Melvin “Duane” Walker; cherished daughter Corrine “Cori” (Walker) Smithburger whom he loved dearly; and special grandmother who spoiled him rotten whom he loved dearly Lois Bailey.
Many thanks to all those who helped tremendously in so many ways during Shawn’s illness. He was so touched by the outpouring of love and support. He asked God to bless everyone.
Shawn loved his work and his customers and really wanted to be remembered as a hardworking, fair, and decent man. He was a gentle giant.
Arrangements are under the care of the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME (HOPWOOD). A Celebration of Shawn’s Life will be held on December 2nd from 2pm-6pm at New Hope Free Methodist Church (210 Barbara St. Uniontown, PA 15401).
