Roy L. Upton Sr.

Roy L. Upton, Sr., 77, of Dunbar Township, passed away on December 26, 2024.

He was born January 16, 1947 in Connellsville, PA, the son of the late Roy N. and Jean Marcella (Butler) Upton

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his son Roy L. Upton II; and sisters Mary Jean Smitley, Beverly Hibbard, Barbara Upton, and Wanda Bigam.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Debra L. (Hayes) Upton; sons Richard L. Upton and Ryan L. Upton of Chester, VA; brothers William Upton of Fairchance, Larry Upton of GA, and Ronald “Pete” Upton of Perryopolis.; brothers-in-law Robert “Uncle Bob” Smitley and Steven Bigam; sister-in-law Cheryl Mozeik (Kenneth); and several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Dunbar Township High School class of 1964. After high school, Roy graduated from Catawba College in 1969 where he played football on a scholarship.

He was a teacher at Southern Huntington High School where he taught English and coached football from 1969-1971. From 1971-1981 Roy worked for the US Department of Justice with the Drug Enforcement Agency where he worked as a special agent. This is where Roy met his wife.

Roy was also the proud owner of Roy’s Pub for 45 years from 1978-2023. Roy’s legacy and what he loved doing was owning the Pub where he met and made many friends. He loved talking sports and considered many customers family.

Arrangements are under the care of the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD. All services will be held privately.
