Rachel Neverdale, 99, passed away Wednesday, May 29th, 2024 at Masternick Health Care/ Alzheimer unit in Middletown, OH.
Rachel was born in Ruble Mill, Pennsylvania on March 1, 1925 to Glenn and Alma King Roderick, the second of nine children.
Graduating from George’s High School in 1942, she began working for Reese's grocery store either working behind the counter or driving their truck delivering groceries.
After marrying the love of her life “Freddie”, she continued raising their daughter and working while he went to serve in World War II.
Returning home from serving, the couple moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Rachel found a job at Wolverine Toy factory. It was during this time she converted to Catholicism and began a life of service to the church. Her devotion to the faith never wavered.
Through her working years, she would drive the sisters of St. Joseph to their doctor appointments and visits to relatives. After no longer needed, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels where she met her friend and mentor Sr. Jean Bridgeman. She became a Eucharistic minister, lector, homebound and hospital minister and Lady of Charity. Eventually becoming president of the Pittsburgh chapter.
Retiring to Uniontown, Pa. with her husband, she continued her ministry as a Lady of Charity and was a devoted member of St. John R.C. Church.
Rachel led an unwavering commitment to a life of service to others. She began her days with daily Mass and then communion services to personal care homes, assisted living and nursing homes in the area.
Not leaving behind her country roots, she loved fishing, hunting and flower gardening.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter Marge (Larry) Podlogar, grandson Larry (Debbie) Podlogar, granddaughter Lori (Don) Blake, step great grandchildren Tyler Blake, Hannah (Reed) York, and Lily Eriksen, sister Ann (Ron) Pavlick, sister-in-law Shirley Roderick and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years in 2005 Fred Neverdale. Sisters Blanche and Leymoine, brothers Bud, Don, Jack and Irven.
Family and friends are invited to a mass of Christian burial in St. John R.C. Church, Uniontown on Thursday June 27 at 12pm. Interment will be held following mass in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Smithfield, PA.
Local arrangements are under the care of the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD.
