Patrick O’Connor McIlvain, 39, of Uniontown, passed away unexpectedly on Monday July 15, 2024 in Raleigh NC.
He was born October 17, 1984 in Pittsburgh, PA.
He graduated from Laurel Highlands High School class of 2003. He attended California University of PA where he was active with Theta Zi fraternity, student council, and played Vulcan Ice Hockey. He was also a lifeguard at the YMCA, and a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Patrick enlisted in the US Army in September 2007. He served in 173rd Airborne and 91st Cavalry. He was critically wounded in Kherwar, Afghanistan in May of 2010. After a long hospital stay, he was placed at Learning Services, a facility specializing in treatment of patients with TBI(s). There Pat was loved and cared for, and became part of the Raleigh community.
Patrick was preceded in death by his grandparents Greer and Virginia McIlvain; and his favorite aunt Nancy Huhn.
He is survived by his mother Mary McIlvain of Uniontown; Uncle John, Aunt Susan, and their son David of Fredericksburg, VA; Uncle Thomas of Newport News, VA; and his extended family. He leaves behind many friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who’s lives he touched all over the world.
Our boundless gratitude to the staff of Learning Services for making a life worth living for Patrick. His friends Christophers Semans and Ryan Fiano who created the Pat Mac Organization, and the Pittsburgh Penguins for all their hospitality and generosity to Patrick. All of Patrick’s hockey friends have been unwavering in their support.
Visitation will be held in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD on Thursday July 25 from 6-8pm and on Friday July 26 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday July 27 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church (121 Walnut Hill Rd, Uniontown, PA) from 9am until the hour of the funeral service at 10AM with Pastor Jim Engel officiating.
Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA.
