Maxine M. McCabe, age 88, of Hopwood, PA, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Uniontown Hospital. Born in Irwin, PA, Maxine was the daughter of the late Fred and Myrtle McCormick. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her brother, Fred McCormick and her loving husband of 33 years, Homer L. McCabe, Sr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Chris Basescu (Monica) of Nashville, TN, Scott Basescu (Joni) of Uniontown, Steven Basescu (Shelly) of Severn, MD, Lee Ann Rice (Tim) of Hopwood; her step-children: Jeff McCabe (Kathy) of Uniontown, Homer McCabe (Sandy) of Hopwood; her grandchildren: Aaron Basescu (Elise), Todd Basescu (Hannah), Kate Dowell (Paul), Ryan Basescu (Cory), Claire O’Neal (Steve), Blake Basescu, Nick Murphy, Anne, Emily, and Tim Rice, Amanda Wynia (Grant), Matthew McCabe (Angela), Allen McCabe (Michelle), Cheryl Yeardie (Scott); her great-grandchildren: Mason and Max Dowell, Sawyer Basescu, Josie Basescu, Dani O’Neal, Jett Basescu, Oliver and Otto McCabe, and Patrick McCabe; her nephew: Brad McCormick (Roseanne)
Maxine was employed by the Laurel Highlands School District for many years however her greatest joy in life was centered around family. She enjoyed creating a comfortable home for her husband, Homer, and she relished the exploits and accomplishments of her extended family. She was Protestant by faith and raised four children with her special combination of hard work, strength, common sense, and gentle humor.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, PA on Friday September 29, 2023, from 2-8pm and on Saturday, September 30th at 9am at Asbury United Methodist Church, Uniontown, PA, until the hour of service at 10am with The Reverend Donald Henderson officiating. Interment to follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Connellsville, PA.
