Joseph Domen Obituary

Joseph G. Domen, 91, of Uniontown, passed away on Tuesday June 4, 2024 at his home.

He was born August 6, 1932 in Grindstone, PA, the son of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Zias) Domen.

In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his wife Sylvia (McGalla) Domen; and siblings Bernice and Gertrude.

Joseph is survived by his children Joseph G Domen II (Laura) of Pittsburgh, Ramona A. Fetty of Pittsburgh, and David M. Domen of Uniontown; grandchildren Joseph G. Domen III of Pittsburgh, Natalie A. Fetty of Winchester, VA, and Maria A. Fetty of Pittsburgh; sister Gloria Chuey of Fairfax, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, VFW post #47 and AMVETS post #103.

Joseph was a graduate of Redstone High School class of 1950 and started Barber school right after. After a year and a half internship, he got licensed in 1953.  He was the owner and operator of Joe Domen’s Barber shop in Uniontown which opened in 1957 and operated for 60 years.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the US Army 60th Station Hospital in Poitiers, France as a P.F.C from 1953-1955.

He was devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was so giving of his time to everyone.

Family and friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD on Friday June 7 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm and on Saturday from 9am until 9:30am when prayers of transfer will be held at followed by a mass of Christian burial in St. Therese de Lisieux R.C. Church at 10am. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery with AMVETS Post #103 conducting military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local veteran organizations in Joseph’s honor.
