Jacqueline Maddas Obituary

Jacqueline Faye Maddas (Hager), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on February 29, 2024, with her loving family by her side.

Jacqueline was born on September 3,1927 in Mount Independence, PA (Lemont Furnace), the second of four children, to the late Robert and Zelda (Matthews) Hager. She graduated from North Union High School and beauty school and soon after eloped and started her family, which became her life-long career and passion.

Jacqueline, known affectionately as Meme, led a long and vibrant life, teaching her family and all who knew her the values of strength and independence. Widowed in her early 40s with four young children after her husband's unexpected death due to surgery complications, Jacqueline faced adversity with grace and resilience.  She was the cherished matriarch of her family, dedicating her life to caring for her family. She loved serving and spending time with her 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, new great-great-grandson, and extended family and friends.  Her home had a revolving door, always open to her family, close friends, and even strangers, where she was a constant presence in their everyday lives.

Jacqueline treasured holiday family dinners, kept up with sports and The Young and the Restless, and enjoyed listening to country music. She was always available for a phone call, never missing a chance to connect with loved ones. In times of emergency or when someone needed help, she was always there to lend a hand.  You could often find her relaxing on the patio swing, engaged in lively conversation, browsing the aisles at “Penney’s,” or indulging her sweet tooth with a slice of coconut cream pie. Known for her generosity, she happily chauffeured her grandkids and anyone in need of a ride.  Jacqueline was quite the driver, known for her speed and agility behind the wheel. Remarkably, she continued driving and shuttling well into her 90s, a testament to her independence and zest for life. She would always say that her cooking and baking skills were not the best, but her chocolate peanut butter Easter eggs, big-as-a-plate pancakes, and broccoli casserole will be missed.  In sum, she was the best and will be deeply missed.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Maddas, a Navy veteran, her son Jeffrey Maddas, her grandson Roger Marva, her sister Yvonne Hopwood, and her brother Robert "Bounce" Hager.

Jacqueline is survived by her children, Marsha Marva (Louie), Lisa Quarrick (Brian), and Albert Douglas Maddas. She is also survived by her sister, Jill Hagar, fromthe island of St. Lucia, and her grandson Dr. Aaron Maddas, whom she raised and resided with in her elder years.

She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Eric Marva (Michelle), Christopher Marva, Justin Marva, Dr. Rebecca Maddas Velicevich (Josh), Brandi Muzika, Samantha Campbell (Roger), Dalton Maddas, and Michael Morris. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Cal Marva (Chelsea), Jimmy Gallo (Jennifer), Ivy Marva, Eli Marva, Haley Marva, Xander Muzika, Millie Faye Fairchild, and Colt Campbell, as well as her great-great-grandchild, Cassian Marva.

Jacqueline also leaves behind two nieces and a nephew: Colleen Fortugna (John), Mona “Sissy” Fornilli (Chris), and Robbie Hagar (Cindy).

The family would like to sincerely thank Amedisys Home Health Care for their assistance in caring for their mother/grandmother. Also, special thanks to her grandson Chris Marva for his loving assistance.
