Edward C. “Snuffy” Yanik, Sr. age 86 of Brownfield, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Uniontown Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born July 28, 1931 in Uniontown, Pa, son of the late Cyril and Mary Osanik Yanik. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Adam “Tony” Yanik, John “Chub” Yanik and William “Nubbins” Yanik and sisters, Helen Ducey, Mary Janosick and Margaret Pavlak.
Mr. Yanik was a member of St. Mary Nativity Roman Catholic Church, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded various Korean War campaign medals and the Purple Heart Medal. He was assistant mine foreman at Cumberland Mine. He was a member of American Legion Post 51, Hutchinson Sportsman’s Club and UMWA. Ed was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and sportsman.
He is survived by his wife Lillian Clark Yanik, sons, Kevin Yanik of Brownfield, Todd Yanik of Philadelphia, and Edward C. Yanik Jr and fiancée Robin Herring of McClellandtown, grandchildren; Bobbie Jo Johnson and husband H. William Johnson III of Uniontown, Adam Yanik of Smithfield, Seth Yanik of Uniontown, Sophia Yanik, Isabella Yanik and Lucia Yanik all of Philadelphia, great grandchildren Howie Johnson and Fletcher Johnson, a brother Robert Yanik of Brownfield and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, Pa , Monday, July 2, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and Tuesday until 9:15 am when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a funeral mass at 10 am in St. Mary’s Nativity Roman Catholic Chuch, Uniontown, Pa. Interment will follow in Mt View Cemetery Hopwood, Pa. Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by North Union VFW Post 8543. Parish Wake Service will be held Monday at 3 pm by St. Mary’s Lazarus Ministry.
