Mark Hahn Bubonovich, 67, of Uniontown went to be with his Lord and his family in Heaven on Saturday, September 7, 2019, following a painful struggle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was looking forward to a glorious heavenly reunion with his parents, his brother Terry “T-Bub” Bubonovich and his very special grandmother Kate “Mam” (Rowe) Hahn Sillings.  Mark was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mark was born on August 10, 1952, in Uniontown Hospital to  Mabel (Hahn) Bubonovich and Nick Bubonovich, Jr.  In addition to his parents, brother and grandparents, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Michael Nelson, William Stitt, and Robert Brittingham.

Mark is survived by his wife, the former Beth Marie Nelson whom he married on July 4, 1980; two nephews, Jerry Bubonovich and Nick Bubonovich, their children and their mother Carol (Hines) Bubonovich. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Lynn Brittingham, Sue Stitt, and Merry (Dominic) Aello and their families. 

From a very young age when he laid claim to his Dad’s 1954 Buick, Mark was fascinated by cars.  When he received a pedal car for his fifth birthday, he considered himself a “two-car man,”He still owns the first two cars he bought with his own money, a 1949 Dodge Coronet when he was fifteen and a 1965 Ford Mustang a year later.  His love of muscle cars continued throughout his life.

Mark was also very interested in the environment and nature.  Wherever he lived, he would keep the surrounding streets free of litter.  His last project was to adopt a one-mile stretch of Morgantown Road ten years ago as “a concerned citizen,” which he cleared of litter at least once a day.  When he was no longer able to walk that far, he drove his little white Fiat to do the job.  He was very fond of observing the flowers, birds and other wildlife wherever  he went.  In the last months of his life he would ask his wife to push his wheelchair up to the window so he could watch the activity at the feeders in his backyard. Mark and his wife also loved to collect memorabilia and nostalgic items that were popular when they were growing up.

After years of helping to care for his father and then his mother during their long illnesses, Mark and his wife enjoyed spending winters with his sister-in-law Suzie Stitt in Florida. He was always anxious to get back to Pennsylvania in early spring to continue cleaning up the litter in his adopted area.

His wife would like to thank Bernie Kasievich, Laura Cole, Bernard and Mary Potkul, Dr. Randall Borland and Pastor James Engel for all their help in caring for Mark during his illness. A debt of gratitude goes out to the staff of Amedisys Hospice care, most especially Michelle, Crystal and Robin who developed a kind and loving relationship with Mark as they took care of his needs during his time in Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, please consider taking a walk and picking up the litter along the way.  Mark would have appreciated that more than anything!

Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME HOPWOOD.  Viewing with be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Tuesday September 10, 2019 and Wednesday September 11, 2019 until 11am the hour of the service with Pastor James Engel officiating.  Interment will follow at the mausoleum at Sylvan Heights cemetery.
