Lynn Scott Obituary

DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME

Lynn Patricia (Balensky) Scott

Lynn P. Scott of Hopwood passed away peacefully at home on January, 6 2019 after a long illness. She entered into the Lord’s arms while surrounded by her loving family.

Lynn was born on February 22, 1958 in Uniontown, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents John F. Balensky of Grindstone and Martha L. (Stramat) Balensky of Uniontown.

Lynn was a 1976 graduate of Laurel Highlands and received a B.Sc. degree in Geography from Penn State University in 1980. Besides working as a cartographer and land title researcher in Texas, she and her husband William enjoyed sailing for many years around the Gulf of Mexico in their yacht Chinquapin, spending that time mostly in Texas, Louisiana and Tarpoon Springs, Florida. They eventually returned home to Hopwood in the early 1990’s with their daughter and lived in the Scott family’s ancestral home.

Lynn was a lover of animals and had a passion for figure skating since childhood. She was a member of the center Ice skating team and had competed in the 2001 ISI World Championship and was a silver-Ranked skater under the USFA. She always enjoyed helping children learn to skate and in years past was the children’s instructor at the Ice Mine skating rank in Leisenring. She diligently pursued her gift of grace and athleticism until a year before her death. She also took great pleasure in sewing and crafts.

Left to cherish her memory are best friend and husband of 37 years William P. Scott and daughter Marilyn Sea Smith and husband Brian of Pittsburgh. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her sister Cheryl Lowery and husband Bob of Scenery Hill, brothers John Balensky and wife Amy of Kansas City, Missouri and Mark Balensky and wife Kate of Warrenton, Virginia. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who gave her much joy as she watched them grow into fine people they are. She is sadly missed by many. In the spirit of Lynn, her family request that all of those who read this extend special warmth and kindness to family, friends and community. Lynn loved to laugh.

All services are private for the family. Interment will be Sylvan Heights Cemetery. Arrangements by the Donald R. Crawford Funeral Hopwood, PA
